1927 is casting!

We are looking to cast 2 performers for 2 main characters in our new show Please right back opening in July 2024.

Performers will need to be available June – mid-August 2024 with subsequent availability for UK touring mid-September – late December 2024. 

About the Show:

Please right back is based on the true story of a family’s experience of the criminal justice system. Children and spouses of criminals are the unseen and innocent victims of the system. 1927 take this subject and turn it into a magical, musical, and darkly comic show.

1927 is a multi-award-winning Margate and London based performance company specialising in combining performance and music with animation and film.

Casting Process & Working with 1927:

A Character breakdown is provided below.

In all 1927 shows actors will learn detailed staging, have rhythm or musical ability, and will be interacting with animation throughout.

These skills will be taught in rehearsal, but rhythmic, expressive performers are the best fit for a 1927 show. Good comic timing and the ability to find the truth and heart of a character whilst performing alongside animation is what we seek!

Dates of Engagement: 

  • Application Deadline: Monday 8 January 2024

  • Casting Workshops: W/C 29 January 2024

  • Rehearsals: 3 June – 21 July 2024

  • Performances: 22 July – 13 August 2024

  • Touring: UK touring mid-September – late December 2024. 

Fee & Terms:

  • £650 per week for rehearsal weeks

  • £700 per week for touring weeks + travel, accommodation and per diems.

  • Casting workshops will take place in London, a contribution to travel for performers based outside of London will be provided to attend the casting workshop.

Casting Breakdown

We are seeking two performers to play 2 characters – Kim & Mr E.

Character 1 - KIM

AGED 12/13

Quirky, empathetic, shy.

We would like to cast a young performer aged 18-25.

Needs to look young or be able to act young. 

KIM is 12 going on 13. She is shy and unpopular at school. She is best friends with her little brother who is an animation.

Must have excellent physical abilities and an expressive face. Interesting vocal quality, ability to sound young.

The audience must empathise with KIM.

You will have to learn extensive detailed staging and will be working alongside animation and animated characters throughout the 2-hour show.

Musicality, rhythm, and the ability to pick up detailed musical blocking (you don’t need to play anything but if you do let us know).

Please note whilst you will be playing a 12–13-year-old and interacting with an animated child character this is not a children’s show, but it is a show for all ages.

  

Character 2 - MR E

Playing Age 30-45

Mr E is the main character (who also plays a host of small comic parts).

Mr E is funny, charming, wonky, weird, a criminal with a heart of gold and a wild imagination. Always finds himself on the wrong side of the tracks. Dedicated to his family but always losing his way.

We’re very keen on exploring accents.

You will have to learn extensive detailed staging and will be working alongside animation and animated characters throughout the 2-hour show.

Must have good physical abilities and an expressive face.

Interesting vocal quality.

Great comic timing

Be empathetic and truthful.

Rhythm and ability to pick up detailed musical blocking is essential.
