Margate, 1 December 2019 – 12 January 2020

Welcome to 1927s Raree Tales Project.  What is a Raree Tale we hear you ask?  Well a Raree Tale is like a Fairy Tale but in a box, a rare sort of box, a Raree Box in fact. There are seven boxes dotted throughout Margate and Cliftonville and each box has a tale to tell.

Every Year 5 child from seven Margate Primary Schools have taken part in this project.   1927 has taken their wild words and perfectly peculiar pictures into the animation studio and edited them together into seven short animations that re-tell seven familiar and no-so-familiar tales, tales from a distant past that refuse to go away, tales that have something they want to say…

And don’t forget: “listen to your children…”

The Raree Tales have been co-created in collaboration with every Year 5 childe from Cliftonville, Drapers Mills, Garlinge, St-Gregory’s Catholic, Northdown, Palm Bay and Salmestone Primary Schools with additional artwork created by Young People from Arts Education Exchange. Raree tales is a Margate Now Commission for Margate Now, an ambitious and dynamic festival of art, events and performance, running alongside the Turner Prize 2019 at Turner Contemporary.
