Commission for an Animator

We’re seeking an Animator to work with us on a short-term contract to create 4 short animations. With our bases in London, Margate and Ramsgate we are particularly interested in hearing from Thanet based animators.

Person Specification:

We’re looking for someone with a strong sense of design, animation and video editing experience but who is also adept at 2D design. It doesn't matter if you are trained or self-taught – but it is essential you have a high level of experience using Photoshop and After Effects.  Additional craft and illustration skills are a bonus.

The Brief:

There are 4 small animation projects for digital distribution and sharing.  These projects won’t have any performance element unlike much of 1927's work, but will exist on our website and be shared online.

Animated Map of Margate; Last year we made some brilliant animated folk tales with over 400 Margate children. The films were hosted by different venues in Margate and housed in beautiful boxes. We want to digitally recreate the experience of walking around Margate watching these films in their venues through an animated journey to each of the sites. A simple map with animated elements will be created, linking to the 7 short animated films.

Digital Lectern; We are collaborating with a small London parks group to create a ‘lectern’ for the park, telling people about the park, the wildlife, and focusing on why we should keep the park clean and not pollute the lake.  Utilising images and Vox pops from a family project we ran in the park over the summer a ‘digital lectern’ is to be created as an online resource accessed via QR codes with simple animated images.

Two animated promotional films:

  • The first an animated world map capturing 1927s reach over the past 13 years for incorporation into 1927’s website.

  • The second a 1927 Animated Review, capturing 1927’s work, reach and plans for the future.

The animations will be delivered through dialogue with 1927’s team and in close collaboration with 1927’s Co-Artistic Director and Animator Paul Barritt to ensure the animations incorporate elements of 1927’s design style and aesthetic.

Terms:

·       This is a freelance role.  Fee: £6,000.

·       Animations to be delivered according to a mutually agreed schedule, with final animations supplied by mid-February 2021.

To apply:

  • It is essential all applicants have an understanding of 1927's work before applying.  You don't need to have seen our shows, but please do visit our website, watch some trailers of our past shows here and the short films created by 1927’s Co-Artistic Director and Animator Paul Barritt here.

  • Please send us a brief summary of your experience in design, animation and video editing + links of up to 3 examples of previous work.

Equal Opportunities

1927 is committed to promoting Equality and Diversity across all its activities. We are interested in working with staff, collaborating with artists and participants and reaching audiences who are underrepresented in the arts sector due to their socio-economic status, ethnic background or disability and we positively welcome applications for participation from these groups.

In order to help us ensure our commitment is being properly implemented, we ask all applicants to complete the Equality and Diversity Monitoring Survey here. This is for monitoring purposes only and will be detached from your application.
