Animation Workshop Leader

1927 specialises in creating exhilarating hybrid stage productions that synchronise performance and live music with handcrafted animation!

We are interested in exploring the potential animation offers as a tool to develop creative skills, digital and media literacies in schools.

The Role:

We are looking for an Animator to work with us as a Workshop Leader to design and lead school animation workshops for primary age children. 

You will be responsible for planning, delivery and evaluation of a term long animation project in a Margate primary school across Autumn 2021 and supporting workshops in a London school as part of a research project in June and July 2021. 

For this role, we are particularly interested in hearing from Thanet and East Kent based animators as the majority of the activity will be delivered in Margate. 

Person Specification: 

We are looking for someone with expertise in stop frame animation and experience of planning and running creative workshops in educational and non-education settings with and for children. 

It doesn't matter if you are a trained or self-taught animator – but it is essential you have a high level of experience in stop frame animation processes and video editing experience.  Additional craft and illustration skills are a bonus.  

You should be creative, organised, have a natural rapport with children and be interested in teaching children how to animate, tell tales, and make something they are really proud of!

Duties: 

  • Co-Designing all activities in collaboration with school staff and 1927’s Co-Artistic Director and Animator Paul Barritt and producing team.

  • Planning, delivering and evaluating practical stop frame animation process workshop sessions for 7-11 year olds.

  • Editing together content created by participants into animated shorts. 

  • There will be 2-3 workshop days in London and 2-3 days editing in June-July 2021. The school Animation project will run September – December initially and subject to confirmation be delivered weekly or bi-weekly 1-2 hour long sessions across the term.

Terms:

  • This is a freelance role.  

  • Workshop fees are £150 per session (prep & delivery).  Project Planning and editing day fees £125 per day.
