CREATIVE LEARNING

We want to fire children and young people’s imaginations, fuel their curiosity, develop their creativity and increase their cultural capital.  Drawing on 1927’s unique combination of skills in illustration, claymation, animation, storytelling and music we seek to offer invigorating and accessible participatory activities for young people that encourage them to share their world-view and tell their stories through illustration, craft and animation.

Our ambition is to inspire our young collaborators to enjoy, learn, develop hard skills, increase confidence, feel empowered and vitally to reflect, think, dream and be creative.

If you would like to get involved Details of forthcoming Creative Learning Activities are coming soon and will be advertised here and on our Calendar page.

‘Mapping Margate’

This Autumn, 1927 will work with Year 5 classes in Margate Primary schools, Open School East’s Despositos arts club and Arts Education Exchange to delivery storytelling and stop-frame animation workshops.

Folktale narratives will inspire students to celebrate our identities, differences and connections. Each group will collaboratively create new stories and myths and bring them to life through stop-frame animations.

1927 will identify a variety of buildings in Margate to video map these original handcrafted animations onto from December 2019

This outdoor, public exhibition will form a central part of Margate Festival and Margate Now, the formal town-wide programme running alongside the Turner Prize in Autumn 2019.

If you are a Margate Primary school and would like to be part of our Mapping Margate project this Autumn, please get in tour with Liz Bate: Liz@19-27.co.uk

Our previous Creative Learning work has included:

My Festival: My Story: A collaboration with EIF inspired by 1927’s production Roots, 400 students from seven Edinburgh Primary schools took part in the project to create their own stories, tales and folk jokes to share with other school classes who animated them in whichever style they chose.
